Black Current Lemonade Recipe

Prep Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 person


  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Tall cocktail spoon (for stiring)


  • 5-6 Blackberries
  • 3 Basil leaves
  • 1 oz Lemon juice
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 15 Drops Hedessent Black Currant Flavour
  • Pinch coarse sugar
  • Club Soda


  • Lemon slices and Blackberries (optional)


  • In a large glass or double old fashioned glass, muddle basil leaves, blackberries, and coarse sugar using a wooden spoon or muddler until berries release their juices. Top with ice and set aside.
  • In a cocktail shaker, fill with ice, lemon juice, simple syrup, and Black Currant flavour and shake hard 60 times.
  • Strain into the prepared glass and top with club soda. Stir with a tall spoon; garnish with lemon slices and blackberries.




½ cup water
½ cup granulated sugar

In a saucepan, combine water and sugar over medium-high heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and begins to boil; reduce to medium and boil for 2 minutes. Let cool for 30 minutes.


Pro Tip #1:

You can make as much or as little simple syrup as you want and store it in your fridge. This way you have it on hand whenever you need it. Just remember to use equal parts water to granulated sugar. 


Pro Tip #2:

We recommend not flavouring your simple syrup directly. This way you can make a larger patch, store it in your fridge and flavour each drink differently. Leaving your simple syrup unflavoured also allows you to control how sweet you make your drinks, while still getting great bold flavour.
